Know How Top PGDM Programs Can Help In Your Personality Development

For a student (or aspirant) of management pursuing (or thinking of pursuing) a PGDM course, a connection between the PGDM program and personalitydevelopment may look like a distant thought … akin to an imagination of signing up for a handful of lessons on how to earn a living and getting a bag brimming with lessons on how to live!

But, actually speaking, such is the case when one opts to do a PGDM course at any of the top business school in India like Asian Business School in Delhi NCR’ s Noida.

Sounds too much to you? You think the two-year-long overwhelming curriculum of PGDM involving classroom learning, case studies, presentations, internships, workshops, seminars and examinations just build good managers? Well, you might just have a different opinion in the next 5 minutes.

The tedious process after which students enter a top business school is in itself a source of pride but it just marks the embarkment of the life-changing journey that the PGDM students witness. While shaping minds that lets students have more rewarding careers, a PGDM course also molds personalities by inculcating valuable life skills in students that allows them to live a more fulfilling life.

Let us take a look at some of key stand points on how top PGDM programs can help in your personality development:

Fostering Professional Code of Behavior & Ethics

The formal setup of a PGDM course requires students to be punctual, fulfil attendance requirements, submit assignments within non-negotiable deadlines, give presentations, perform activities in a team and to do all of this with the highest degree of professionalism. PGDM students are expected to meet, interact, study and work with people from different backgrounds which call for bringing good manners, cooperation, conformity and moral conduct on the table.

Any kind of indiscipline during classroom lessons, presentations, group discussions or events is seen as a lack of seriousness on the part of the student which creates a bad impression in the eyes of peers and faculty, and that is something no sensible individual would wish to do for in the world of business where yourimpression is everything. When the entire environment is that of courtesy, orderliness, and decorum, there is hardly any scope left for anyone to not develop a professional attitude, behave ethically and acquire a sense of corporate responsibility.

Teaching Eloquence & Ability To Influence People

Imagine being told to present a case study in front of hundreds of students and imagine being told you will be graded for it! You will obviously roll up yoursleeves and work hard towards delivering it in the best possible way; you will work on your content and your pronunciation, you will try to be inventive and create an unforgettable impression on your grader. This is exactly what PGDM students go through frequently during the course.

With time, every student gets better at articulately conveying their ideas and influencing people with their in-depth preparation. Apart from presentations, the group discussions, team activities, interviews for internships and jobs, regular communication with faculty and peers adds to the need and desire to be more expressive and impactful, thus leading to more confidence and ability to influence people among students.

Imparting Resourcefulness & Problem-Solving Skills

Anyone who is used to get spoon-fed for making decisions and for solving problems might find it really hard to survive comfortably in a business school. Universities and colleges teaching PGDM aim at producing self-sufficient individuals who can think on their feet and take prudent decisions. If any problem arrives while conducting activities and events during your PGDM, you are expected to step up, act calmly and find solutions like a leader. You cannot let any difficulties make you feel frustrated or overwhelmed.

From choosing electives to taking impromptu decisions, PGDM demands students to be resourceful, aplomb, and self-assured, thus aiding them in learning one of the most important skills of self-independence. Being resourceful and good at problem-solving is what lets a person strive and grow in both professional and personal space.

Creating Self-Awareness & Independence

One of the most important things that the PGDM curriculum does for a student is to hand them with enough opportunities to seek feedback and evaluate their performance. Nothing that you do in a business school can be brushed under the carpet – your success and failures, your sensible decisions and stupid mistakes are all out there!

Even with the constant hustle, the PGDM leaves you with adequate time for self-reflection and self-evaluation which is highly imperative to plan your career and life ahead. You need to be self-aware to identify your strengths and weaknesses, to make decisions that align with your personality and goals and to accept the results that your choices produce. The sense of self that PGDM instills in you is something most people fail to acquire otherwise and constrains them in a box of preconceived notions not letting them grow to their full potential.

Lessons on Prioritizing & Managing Time

A top business school to an ambitious graduate is what Disney World is to a five-year-old kid – viz., an exciting place overwhelmed with so much you would want to do in so little time. PGDM offers you the opportunity to map a customized career map for yourself and take directions accordingly.

Right from day one you have so many choices to make and strict deadlines to meet, demanding you to master the art of prioritizing and showcase efficient time management skills. When all the students have presented the same opportunities, it becomes more about HOW and WHEN you do it rather than WHAT you do. The better you plan, prioritize and manage your time, the more you are likely to stand out from your peers and shine in the eyes of your faculty and recruiters.

Finding Comfort Out Of A Comfort Zone

Soon after you start your PGDM, you are thrown out of your comfort zone and it is ensured that you can never enter it again. In order to prepare you for the dynamic business world out there, new challenges are thrown at you every day and you are expected to catch them all efficiently. In order to stay at the top of the game, you need to acquire knowledge and skills continuously.

You are expected to go beyond your classroom learning and leverage opportunities that promise you enriching experiences. Most of the times, your desired PGDM programme will be in a college mile away from your home and you will be required to stay in a hostel with people of different backgrounds. Yourdetermination and zest need to be strong enough to not let any discomfort come in between you and your goals.

Gaining The Confidence To Deal With The Uncertainties

The fast-paced modules of your PGDM course overflowing with opportunities, leave you will no time to get frustrated or overwhelmed; you learn to move on with both your successes and failures in no time. You might perform well in one semester but the next semester might turn to be a disaster. You might perform really low academically but get your research get published in an eminent paper.

Whatever the case be, with time you understand with constant opportunities coming your way, there will always scope for improvement or scope for more and nothing is the end of the world. This is probably the best lesson that comes with the completion of an PGDM programme – you learn to embrace the uncertainties, which is the very essence of life!

It is therefore evident that the well-planned pedagogy of an PGDM course focusing on creating well-balanced individuals is flexible enough to help students learn how to take prudent decisions, become self-sufficient, and leverage various opportunities and rigid enough to teach them how to manage time, prioritize, and become disciplined.

What a lifetime might not be able to do is something a two years PGDM course can do for you – viz., reform your personality! But, for that to happen, it is important to select the right PGDM course in the right business school.

Choosing the right course and college is a very challenging task that requires analyzing your profile, evaluating your career goals in respect to current trends in various industries and seeking monitorship from experts who have already covered the journey who desire to cover. Now you must be wondering if there is any one place doing it all? Asian Business School is your answer. After all, when it comes to opting for something as life-changing as a PGDM course, it is advisable to seek help from professionals who are dedicated to fulfilling dreams and building awesome careers.

CORPORATE INTERFACE IS OF PRIME IMPORTANCE FOR PGDM PROGRAM

The definition of a good management institute offering PGDM courses today is largely dependent on its ability to offer industry interface to its students that helps them to enhance their practical knowledge and acumen, and make them ready for the corporate world. A top B-School like Asian Business School in Delhi NCR focuses entirely to create industry-ready employable candidates. At a time of cut-throat competition where everyone strives hard for a successful career, industry interface works out to be of prime importance.

THE ACADEMIA-INDUSTRY COLLABORATION

The corporate interface program or the academia-industry collaboration is designed for the management students pursuing courses like PGDM in which the student is required to work with a corporate for some part of their course duration.

The need for highly-skilled professionals is going up each day. Academia-industry collaboration initiative is the idea of PGDM colleges to prepare their students for the corporate world outside and help them sustain in this highly competitive world. The imperative need for making the PGDM students employable or in other terms industry-ready has compelled the management schools to redefine their curriculum and make industry interface an important part of the course. The concept of ‘classroom to industry’ is gaining popularity and with more fresh students enrolling themselves for PGDM courses, this concept helps them in being at par with the experienced students.

HOW THE STUDENTS CAN BENEFIT?

While studying in a top PGDM college and looking forward to a bright future, gaining practical knowledge other than lectures and theories becomes important.  To be at par with the rapidly changing scenarios of the job market, it is essential for the PGDM student to be industry-ready. A company looking for a PGDM candidate will want him to have some practical knowledge about the industry, what are the latest trends and happenings in the industry.  Therefore, anyone who wants to pursue higher education in the field of management by way of a PGDM course should make a thorough research about the colleges. The decision should definitely be based on corporate interface tie-ups of the colleges offering Post Graduate Diploma in Management.

OTHER STUDENT BENEFIT INCLUDES:

  • The building of confidence and instilling of a positive attitude towards the work culture
  • Providing equal opportunity to the students who have zero work experience
  • Nurturing skills as well as knowledge
  • Creating better employment prospects

WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF INDUSTRY INTERFACE?

Exposure to the corporate world is broadly related to working experiences in an organization. There are various types of industry interface which can be included in the course curriculum of PGDM colleges. Some of these types are:

  • Internship Opportunities: A great chance to gain experience, learn about the industry and polish your skills. A PGDM student can find an internship of its choice as the number of MNC’s offer summer internship to management students.  PGDM colleges with the help of corporate tie-ups can also help their students to get the best internships.
  • Seminars & Forums: The industries today organize a lot of seminars, forums, trade shows and interactive sessions where students can gain core knowledge about the industry, its working culture and more.
  • Guest Lectures: The best PGDM colleges in India keenly organize guest lectures that are industry-specific which helps the students learn from someone who is already a part of the industry.

HOW THE CORPORATES CAN BENEFIT?

The benefits of the corporate interface is a two-sided game. The industry interface program not only benefits the PGDM students but also helps the corporates to find the ‘right one’.  The corporates are equally gaining a lot of benefits. Some include:

  • Minimizing training cost as the students have already been trained under the internship program that they undertook
  • Increased association with the educational institutes that can help the organizations build courses that require specializations in a particular field
  • Getting a more efficient workforce that will require minimum training
  • Reducing its hiring costs as campus placements will go up
  • Opportunity to pick sustainable candidates

Besides building a student industry relationship, the industry interface program also helps the B- Schools build a brand name for themselves. These programs are surely an effective way of preparing the PGDM students with the best industrial practices that help them to connect to the outside world.

Thus, the industry interface for PGDM students enhances their practical knowledge, provides a secured future to the applicants, and minimizes the time and capital invested in grooming the candidates.

How Will a PGDM Course Benefit Your Career And Your Life?

When deliberating which course or further study to undertake, most students consider the kind of jobs they would be eligible for or careers they can pursue after their course, and how well paying they would turn out. But it should be known that though these factors are worth evaluating, there’s a lot more in store than just employ ability and a higher earning capacity.

It is a well-known fact that management is a favorite among students as it can guarantee a well-paying job and a successful career. Struggling with management studies can be daunting but very fruitful.

A PGDM course enriches one’s whole life, and that of those around. It not only teaches one technical skills and knowledge, the advantages extend much further: bolstering quality of life, facilitating personal growth and the ability to survive and thrive in the dynamic world.

In comparison to any university management degree, the benefits attached with an autonomous management course like a PGDM course are plenty. The two-year Post Graduate Diploma in Management cultivates students into bright business professionals. They are schooled in investment, entrepreneurship, business economics, market structure, retailing, etc. The PGDM courses are not obligated to follow any university structure and utilize academic freedom unhindered within the parameters set by AICTE, because of their autonomous nature. Due to their inherent ability of exercising this academic liberty, they develop educational processes and programs in line with industry demands which become trend setters.

Also an annual revision of the PGDM curriculum keeps pace with industrial demands, and teachers pro-actively mentor students. Students are provided with vast exposure to the real world of business through live projects, industry internship, interactions with business leaders and case studies along with the rigorous classroom learning. They are exposed to interactions from industry experts from around the world which inspire them.

Markedly dependent on the exposure and experience a student gains during this course, it has been ascertained that students of Post Graduate Diploma in Management boast of an upper edge, be it in their career or their life.
